I love Italian food and who can resist a delicious plate of Spaghetti and Meatballs? I have tried turkey meatballs, but I cannot wait to try Doctor Oz’s recipe for meatballs made out of chicken breast! Make sure to check that your spaghetti sauce, marinara sauce or tomato sauce does not have more than 50 calories per each 1/2 cup of sauce… also a good thing to know!

Dr. Oz’s Healthy Spaghetti and Meatballs Recipe:

Ingredients:
– 2 bottles marinara sauce
– 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
– 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
– 1 pound ground chicken breast
– 1/4 cup Whole Wheat Flour
– 3/4 cup Whole Wheat Breadcrumbs
– 1/2 cup broccoli, finely minced
– 1/2 cup onion, finely minced
– 1/2 cup white mushrooms, finely chopped
– 3 egg whites
– 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
– 1 TB parsley, finely minced
– 1 tsp dried basil
– 1/2 tsp oregano
– 1 tsp garlic powder
– 1 tsp onion powder
– 1 pound Whole Wheat Spaghetti or Jerusalem Artichoke Spaghetti

– 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Directions:
1. Put the two bottles of tomato sauce (except for a 1/2 cup) into a pot and heat over low heat.
2. In a bowl, mix together the ground chicken breast, whole wheat flour, whole wheat bread crumbs, broccoli, onion, mushrooms, 1/2 cup tomato sauce, egg whites, 2 cloves garlic, parsley, basil, oregano, garlic powder and onion powder.
3. Form 15 meatballs, and brown the meatballs in a nonstick pan.
4. As soon as the meatballs are browned, put them into the pan of tomato sauce.
5. Increase the heat on your tomato sauce and meatballs to medium heat and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
6. Cook the pasta while the tomato sauce and meatballs are cooking.
7. Serve with parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.
