Dr Oz did an entire segment on Alternative Health Secrets from India, and one of the powerful tools in Ayurveda Medicine that he profiled was Curry Powder. Dr Kulreet Chaudhary said that her family’s secret Curry Powder Recipe is far superior to regular Curry Powder and, once you try this, you will not be able to go back to regular, store bought Curry Powder. The reason I am including this on Recipes for Diets is because Curry Powder is a great way to cook healthy dishes with lots of flavor. Just use Curry Powder in place of salt, pepper and fat, and your dishes will be sure to pack a punch! Plus, Kulreet Chaudhary told Doctor Oz that Curry Powder helps to prevent Alzheimer’s Disease, which is why the rate of Alzheimer’s Disease in India is four times lower than it is in America. The most important ingredient for fighting off Alzheimers is turmeric. Also, as a side note, Fenugreek is really great for people with chronic digestion problems.
Dr Oz’s Curry Powder Recipe Ingredients:
5 tsp coriander seeds
1 tsp fenugreek seeds
1 large bay leaf
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp black mustard seeds
1 small (1.5 inch) piece of a cinnamon stick
5 cloves
2 tsp turmeric powder (reserve for later)
Dr Oz Curry Powder Recipe Directions:
1. Place all of the above ingredients, except for the Turmeric Powder, into a coffee grinder and grind well.
2. Add 2 tsp of Turmeric Powder into the mixture and mix well.

Don’t the seeds for the curry powder recipe need to be toasted before grinding? If not, can they?
Thanks,

Crystal, I did not read anything about toasting the seeds first, but I do believe I saw Alton Brown do it when he was making his curry powder on his TV show. If you try toasting the seeds first, please share with all of us how it turns out!!!
